In 2020, in collaboration with its sponsors and institutions, Artissima awards five prizes for artists and galleries, assigned by international juries: illy Present Future Prize, Carol Rama Award by Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte (new!), Tosetti Value Award for photography (new!), FPT Prize for Sustainable Art (new!) and Ettore and Ines Fico Prize.
illy Present Future Prize, in collaboration with illycaffè, now in its 20th edition, is assigned to an artist in the Present Future section, which has been a launching pad for new talents for many years. This year an international jury will be convened to evaluate the works of the section, on the online platform Artissima XYZ, and will assign the illy Present Future Prize to the most interesting project. Since 2012, this prize has granted its winner the exceptional opportunity to have a show at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. On the occasion of Artissima 2020, the solo exhibition by aaajiao, winner of last year’s edition, will open at the museum. The exhibition is curated by Marianna Vecellio.
Thanks to the contemporary vision of illycaffè and the active partnership with Castello di Rivoli, the illy Present Future Prize offers an important contribution to the success of emerging international talents, confirming the company’s active role in the fair.

The Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future Prize, created in 2014 in partnership with Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte, a private Torino-based institution founded by Pinuccia Sardi to support modern and contemporary art, changes its form and is updated, becoming the Carol Rama Award. The new guise of the award takes its cue from the always vivid interest of Pinuccia Sardi in the work of Carol Rama, which in recent years has led to support for the creation of the catalogue raisonné of the artist’s works, to be published in 2021, and the acquisition of the contents of the artist’s home. The apartment at Via Napione 15, where Carol Rama lived and worked from the 1940s until her death in 2015, welcoming many personalities and artists, was listed in 2016 as an important national cultural asset, protected as an artist’s studio. In 2019 Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte acquired the complete contents of the residence from the artist’s heirs, and then ceded it on loan to Archivio Carol Rama, the current handler, to allow the home-studio to become a living, vital location for knowledge and study of the painter’s work, open to the public and researchers, to discover the creative independence of this artist who always eluded classification and the stereotypes of the world of women. As the artist wrote in 1980: “I remember that in my identity as an artist I was very much afraid of my identity as a woman, like a discomfiting and unacceptable double”. An international jury will assign the Carol Rama Award to the artist who embodies, through research and work, the ideal of unconventional female creativity and artistic freedom Carol enacted and transmitted with her works and personality. Besides a cash prize, the award offers the selected artist the opportunity to initiate a constructive conversation with Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte and with the Archivio Carol Rama during the course of 2021.

Tosetti Value – Il Family office continues its support of Artissima and organises an award for photography based on the desire to investigate the relationship between art and economics, and to widen the perspective on the real world. The Tosetti Value Award for photography establishes a dialogue with “Perspectives: the economy of images”, a project on contemporary photography that began in 2014, curated by Tosetti Value per l’Arte with the objective of fostering debate and reflection on our present through a variegated programme of exhibitions and talks, in synergy with the economic research conducted by Family Office. A jury of experts will select the artist whose photographic work is seen as particularly interesting for an understanding of the historical-social and economic situation of our globalised world. The winning artist, besides receiving a financial award, will have the chance to be a protagonist of “Perspectives: the economy of images” with an exhibition project held at the headquarters of Tosetti Value starting in 2021. The collaboration will be completed with the acquisition of a work that will become part of the corporate collection of Family Office.

FPT Industrial, a leading company in the sector of industrial motors, reinforces its relationship with Artissima by sponsoring the Premio FPT for Sustainable Art, a meeting point of sustainability, innovation and art. A partner of Artissima in 2019 and Main Sponsor of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, FPT Industrial thus confirms its commitment to sustainability, with the objective of selecting – through the work of an international jury – an artist whose research and creations are the result of a conceptual procedure leading to sustainable production. The prize investigates the creative process and sheds light on its importance, centrality and impact on the dimensions with which the artist comes to grips with his or her research. The work is seen as the result of a creative procedure that involves people, materials, lives, and has to come to terms with organizational, logistical and economic mechanisms, where sustainability is seen as the motor of transformation of both creative and industrial processes. The winning artist receives an honorarium, and will have the opportunity to initiate a constructive dialogue with an innovative company like FPT Industrial.

For the tenth consecutive year, Artissima and Museo Ettore Fico will collaborate for the Ettore and Ines Fico Prize. Andrea Busto and the artistic board of MEF will select one young Italian artist from those showing work at Artissima, who thanks to his/her creative research and poetics will be offered the possibility of presenting a solo exhibition in the spaces of MEF during the course of 2021.
