Following the tragedy of Superga–the terrible air disaster on 4 May 1949 that took the lives of the entire Grande Torino football team along with four crew members, managers, journalists and coaches on the flight home from a match in Lisbon–the funeral saw a long procession through the streets of the city, with the highest government authorities and countless citizens, as people from Turin and all of Italy mourned.
