Women’s march for peace

Eight days before the political election of 18 April 1948, the second in the history of the Republic: the parties were on the move. The women of Alleanza Femminile support the Popular Democratic Front for Freedom, Peace, and Labour, the political group of which they were a part, together with the Italian Communist Party of Togliatti and the Italian Socialist Party of Nenni. Pacifism was an integral part of the movement, so much so that it was represented by the white field of the coalition’s symbol, along with the green star of labour and the red of Garibaldi’s beret, symbolizing leftward leanings. Their main opponent and the absolute winner of the elections, however, was the DC led by De Gasperi.
